Mindfulness-Based
Stress Reduction and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for depression
relapse prevention are taught regularly by Marianne Spitzform, Ph.D.
to interested individuals and organizations. Mindfulness-Based Stress
Reduction is an 8 week class developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn over 25
years ago. The class introduces a variety of mindfulness techniques
during group meetings which are then practiced at home guided by
CDs which are provided. The Stress Reduction course is helpful for
a variety of health problems in addition to the stresses of everyday
life.
Mindfulness
Based Cognitive Therapy for depression relapse prevention combines
the basic elements of the Stress Reduction course with strategies
for recognizing and working with triggers of depression.
For
individuals who prefer a less structured introduction to mindfulness
practice, the elements of the class are taught in one-to-one meetings.
